Departure from Athens to Peloponnese, for a magical two-day trip to Mani.
Mani is a historical area of the Peloponnese that extends to the Taygetos Peninsula, a place that combines stone and sea in perfect harmony, offering countless pictures that will fascinate you.
Our first destination is the Archaeological Site of Mystras, considered one of the most important Byzantine monuments. Among other things, there are 7 well-preserved churches which were the central temples of the monasteries. The churches were a place to learn Byzantine architecture, hagiography, spatial study and painting. Its archaeological site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Then we will go to the coastal Gythio, which according to Pausanias meant “the land of the gods”. The southern edge of the town of Gythio joins a pier with a small island, ancient Kranai, where Paris and Helen spent their first night before arriving in Troy.
There, we will make a stop for lunch and then head to Limeni, a seaside village of Mani, whose dazzling beauty will impress you. We will spend our overnight stay there.
The next morning, you can enjoy the relaxing view of the crystal and clear waters with the stone houses above the water, which is the best way to start your day. After breakfast, we will leave the hotel for a swim, and enjoy an oasis of coolness and tranquillity. After returning to the hotel we will depart for Diros Caves. It is a beautiful cave, which was discovered by the locals in 1900 but began to be explored almost half a century later. Fossil bones of panther, lion, hyena, deer and ferret have been found in the cave. Its length exceeds 15km, while at one point its depth reaches 100m. During our tour of the cave, we will see the amazing stalagmites and stalactites, which, in combination, offer a spectacular view.
After our guided tour of the cave, lunch will follow and then we will return to Athens.
