Half day city tour of Athens

Through our tour of historic Athens, one of the world's oldest cities, you will discover some of the city's most important monuments.

Our tour starts from the sacred rock of the Acropolis, which will last about 1.5 to 2 hours. There we will see the Parthenon that gathers the admiration of those who visit it.

It was built in the 5th century BC, to honour the goddess Athena, who protected the city. In our tour, we will also see the Propylaea, the main gate of the Acropolis, the Erechtheion with the six Caryatids supporting the roof of the porch, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the theatre of Dionysus, which is considered the first in the world and many more important monuments. The visit to the new Acropolis Museum is optional, although we suggest you do it and it will definitely leave you satisfied.

Then, we will head to the Panathinaiko Stadium, where in 1896 the first modern Olympic Games took place. In ancient times, the Panathenaic Games were held there in honour of the Goddess Athena. It is the only marble Stadium in the world and its excellent symmetry will surprise you. There you will have the opportunity to explore the Stadium, to discover its corridors, to sit in the stands of the stadium and take photos from the podium of the medals against the background of the Stadium.

Next, we will see the National Library of Greece, an impressive Doric-style building designed by Danish architect Theophilus Hansen. It is part of the famous Athenian Trilogy of neoclassical buildings. In the National Library, there are lush gardens and sculptures of great Greek artists, as well as statues of the Vallianos brothers.

Our next destination is the Greek Parliament. A dazzling three-story neoclassical building located right in the centre of the city. There you will be able to take photos next to the Evzones, who is the Presidential Guard with the characteristic traditional attire and you will watch the change of guard. In front of the wall that surrounds the parliament, is the monument of the Unknown Soldier. Going down, you will see Syntagma Square, the main square of Athens. The word Syntagma means Constitution. The square is surrounded by the busiest streets of the city and is a meeting point for many Athenians.

In the last hour of our tour, you will be given free time in the old neighbourhood of Plaka. There you can walk in its picturesque streets, to dine and buy souvenirs and traditional products of our country.
